Questions and answers about used electric cars
What are the benefits of a certified used electric car?
Certified pre-owned electric cars can be an excellent investment. In addition to the peace of mind that comes with buying your car from your Volvo dealer, you also get:
– 12-month warranty
– A certificate of battery health
– Full service history
– Review by certified technicians
– Battery warranty for up to 8 years or 160,000 km*
– The latest software installed
*Valid for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers from the car's first registration date and guarantees at least 70% of the original capacity throughout the entire period.
What is included in the high-voltage battery's factory warranty?
The high-voltage battery's factory warranty covers the battery's performance and ensures that it retains at least 70% of its original capacity for up to 8 years or 160,000 kilometers, calculated from the car's first registration date.
What is a battery health certificate for electric cars?
When you buy a certified used electric car from us, a certificate showing the high-voltage battery's State of Health (SOH) is included. The certificate indicates how much of the battery's original capacity remains. A value of 100% SOH means that the battery has the same capacity and therefore the same range as when the car was new.*
*Battery health estimates are affected by how the battery has been used in the past and by other external factors. The measurement is expected to be within ±3% SOH for batteries with over 90% SOH and within ±5% for batteries with under 90% SOH.
The value is not a guarantee or forecast of future battery health and all batteries lose capacity over time. The rate of degradation can be affected by many things, including outdoor temperature and charging habits. For tips on how to maintain the health and performance of your battery, see your car's owner's manual. Your battery certificate will come either digitally or in paper form. Contact your Volvo dealer for more information.
How does battery health affect range?
Battery health affects how far the car can go on a charge. For example: If the State of Health (SOH) is 95% and the car had a range of 500 km (100% SOH) when new, the current range is approximately 475 km. This is because 5% of the capacity has been lost, which equates to approximately 25 km of reduced range.
How do I know if my battery is working properly?
For your peace of mind, we offer predictive maintenance for our high-voltage batteries. If we see that performance is deteriorating and the battery needs to be replaced, we will contact you to plan and prepare a workshop visit.
How much does it cost to replace an electric car battery?
If your high voltage battery needs to be replaced outside of the factory warranty (8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first), we offer a durable and cost-effective alternative. Instead of installing a brand new battery, we offer a refurbished battery with the same health (or higher) as the previous battery. This battery has a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first.
How long is the warranty for certified used electric cars?
The warranty length varies depending on the age of the electric car and is valid provided that the car is serviced according to protocol at an authorized Volvo workshop during the warranty period.
– Used electric car without new car warranty. Valid for 12 months or 3,000 kilometers, depending on which comes first. Covers both companies and private individuals.
– Used electric car with remaining new car warranty. Valid for 12 months in addition to the remaining new car warranty. Covers both companies and private individuals.
What does the warranty cover?
The Volvo Selekt warranty is similar to a new car warranty and covers damage that occurs during normal driving, but that you cannot influence.
When does the warranty start?
The warranty starts from the delivery date stated on the Volvo Selekt certificate you receive from your Volvo dealer. The Volvo Selekt warranty only applies to the person named on the certificate. This means that you cannot transfer the warranty to another owner of the car or export the car to another country. If you do not have a Volvo Selekt certificate, you can always contact your Volvo dealer to have one printed out.
How often should the car be serviced?
You need to service your car according to the current service schedule. If you don't, there is a risk that the Volvo Selekt warranty will not apply. To ensure that your car is always serviced on time, you can sign a service agreement with your authorized Volvo dealer. They have the right training and knowledge to ensure that your car continues to function optimally, even in the future.
What is not covered by the warranty?
Volvo Selekt are used cars and are therefore expected to have a certain amount of wear and tear based on mileage and age. In other words, your warranty should be seen as a continuation of the new car warranty and not a restart. For example, the warranty does not apply:
– If the car has not been maintained according to the instructions in the owner's manual or service booklet.
– If the car has been modified using accessories that are not original accessories.
– If the car has been used in racing or deliberately overloaded.
– If the car has been used as a courier, taxi, rental or driving school car, for example.
– If repairs or service have been carried out by a non-authorised Volvo workshop.
– If anything other than Volvo Genuine Parts has been fitted.
The warranty also does not apply to:
– Parts that must be replaced at specified service intervals.
– Components that are considered wearing parts such as wiper blades or brake pads.
– Damage caused by external damage such as stone chips, collisions, air pollution, salt, hail or similar causes.
