48 V battery

The 48 V battery supports the engine start and can regenerate energy during braking.

Servicing and replacement

The 48 V battery and the box around it must only be handled by authorised technicians. It is recommended that you contact an authorised Volvo workshop if there are any questions or issues. A replacement battery must have the correct specifications, such as type and capacity.

 Warning

  • Do not touch components which are not clearly described in the user manual. Components with 48 V can be dangerous if handled incorrectly.
  • Never use the 48 V battery to jump start another vehicle.
  • Never connect any external equipment to the 48 V battery.

Regenerating power

Your car can recover kinetic energy when braking to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. When you brake while the gear is in D or M, the car will regenerate energy.

Regenerative braking symbol

A symbol in the driver display indicates when your car is regenerating power, such as by braking.
