Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15
Leg 1 Summary
The Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team celebrated deep into the night after an epic first leg victory in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race. The crew barely slept in the days before sailing into Cape Town on November 5. They worked hard to fend off the dogged advances of the Dongfeng Race Team, which was close on their heels throughout the 6,487-nautical-mile stage despite a smashed rudder.
There have been many close finishes in the 41-year history of the Volvo Ocean Race, but few have been quite so tense for the victors. Abu Dhabi celebrated their win and then went back out to sea. A lot can change and there’s still a long way to go – eight legs and about 32,252 nautical miles to be precise.
