New Volvo Car UX software release for an improved in-car experience

As part of a new generation user experience, Volvo Car UX, some cars will receive upgraded centre and driver displays through a software update.

This software update aims to provide a better driving experience by displaying relevant information to you only when it's needed.

The update will be available in the second half of 20251 for cars with Google built-in of model year 2025 and earlier.

 Note

This update does not apply to ES90, EX90, or EX30 cars as they already have upgraded displays. Cars with the earlier Sensus infotainment system are not able to receive this update.

  • A simplified home screen in the centre display to provide quick and intuitive access to common functions like maps, media, and phone controls.

  • Larger button areas for a number of functions, including temperature settings.
  • Visual improvements in the driver display, including increased map area and modernised dials.
  • An improved process on how to connect the Volvo Cars app to the car. For more information, see Connecting the Volvo Cars app to the car .

Updating the car's software to Volvo Car UX

You'll be notified via the Volvo Cars app and your car's centre display when the update is available. To update the software, you can either:

  • Download and install it yourself via the centre display. You can reschedule the update up to 10 minutes before the installation starts.
  • Schedule and install it yourself via the latest version of the Volvo Cars app. You can reschedule the update up to 10 minutes before the installation starts.
  • Have it updated by a retailer during a regular scheduled maintenance visit at a workshop.

To update your car's software, read Updating your car's software. Here you will find instructions and videos on how to how to download, schedule, and install an over-the-air software update to your car.

 Note

The update is free of charge if you do it yourself or if it's part of a regular scheduled maintenance visit. You may however be charged a fee if a workshop performs the update outside of a scheduled maintenance visit.

The Volvo Car UX update will eventually replace the previous user interface of the displays.

If you've received a notification to install Volvo Car UX but haven't done it yet, it will be installed during your next scheduled maintenance visit that includes a software update.

Once your car receives the update, it is not possible to go back to the previous interface.

 Note

If you don't receive a notification, it may be because your car or market isn't eligible for over-the-air updates. It may also be because your car's software is outdated and needs to be updated at a workshop before your car can receive over-the-air updates.
