Troubleshooting sound system issues in your vehicle

If you're experiencing sound system issues, try restarting the center display and updating your vehicle's software before contacting your Volvo retailer.

Sound system issues

Try the troubleshooting steps below if you experience any of the following issues:

  • Any loss of sound, such as no sound from the radio, turn signals, navigation guidance, or parking sensors
  • Reduced sound quality, such as distortion or static

Restarting the center display

Many temporary software issues can be resolved by restarting your vehicle's center display. Read your vehicle's user manual for instructions on how to restart the center display.

Your vehicle's audio should be back to normal after the reset.

Note

If you are having issues adjusting the volume, you can also try switching to a different media source.

Alternative reset method

If restarting the center display doesn’t resolve the issue, you can also try the following:

  1. Leave and lock your vehicle.
  2. Wait approximately 25 minutes for the system to fully power down.
  3. Return to the vehicle and check if the sound has been restored.

Software Updates

Keeping your vehicle's software up to date is essential for preventing and resolving any potential software issues. Software updates address known issues and provide the latest functionality and improvements.

Checking for updates

If you're unsure about your software version or need help with updates:

  • Find your vehicle's software version via your vehicle's center display. Go to Settings→System→Software updates.
  • Use the Volvo Cars app to check for available updates and schedule installation.
  • Contact your Volvo retailer; they can check if a software update is available for your vehicle and install it for you.

Tip

Downloading and installing the latest software updates over the air is recommended. A workshop-assisted software update may incur a fee.

When to contact your retailer

If your vehicle's software is up to date and the troubleshooting steps don’t resolve your sound issues, contact your Volvo retailer for additional support.

Note

You should not need to perform system resets regularly. If you vehicle's software is up to date and you still need to reset the system frequently, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized Volvo workshop to identify and resolve any underlying issues.
