Accessibility Statement for volvocars.com Website
Volvo Cars is dedicated to making volvocars.com/market-slug accessible in accordance with the Act on the Accessibility (Directive (EU) 2019/882) of Certain Products and Services.
This accessibility statement applies to: www.volvocars.com/lu
The statement does not apply to other non-transactional sites, including but not limited to
- Accessories information portal: accessories.volvocars.com/fr-lu (non-ecommerce)
- Business and Fleet portal: www.volvocars.com/lu/business (B2B platform)
Status
This website is partially compliant with the Act on the Accessibility of Certain Products and Services due to the non-compliances described below.
Non-Accessible Content
Interface Flexibility
Content and controls extend beyond the visible area on small screens and at 200% browser zoom. Mobile navigation menus, product carousels, and delivery information panels in particular overflow or overlap instead of adapting to the viewport. This makes usage difficult for users with low vision who need to zoom, mobile users, and users with motor impairments who cannot scroll precisely to find hidden content.
Navigation and Links
Some interactive elements are inaccessible via keyboard, focus order breaks when modals open, visual focus indicators are missing, certain carousels require drag gestures, landmarks are incomplete, and link texts are often unclear. This hinders usability for keyboard users (e.g., those with motor disabilities), screen reader users who rely on landmarks, and those who need descriptive link texts.
Colors and Presentation
Several texts have insufficient contrast, some information is conveyed only through color, adjusted text spacing hides content, and autoplay videos cannot be paused. This affects users with color blindness, low vision users who modify text spacing, and people with concentration difficulties who are distracted by unpausable videos.
Structure and Formatting
Some visual headings are not marked as headings in the code, heading levels are skipped, and empty heading tags appear. This creates unclear content structure for screen reader users who navigate by headings.
Images
Many images lack clear descriptions, making it difficult for screen reader users or others needing alternative text to understand them. When images function as links, the destination of the links is unclear.
Forms
Some buttons and functions in forms are not selectable or lack clear labels. For example, a file upload button may not be selectable at all, and a close button may not always work. This complicates form use for keyboard users and screen reader users.
Tables
Some tables lack clear headers or explanations, making it difficult for screen reader users or people with cognitive challenges to interpret the information.
Dynamic Content and Clarity
When content changes on the page—such as after a search or when cookie settings open—focus does not always move to the correct location. Clear messages about what is happening are often missing. This confuses users navigating with keyboard or screen reader and causes them to lose orientation on the site.
Automatic Events
A popup survey window appears without user initiation, and the close button lacks clear labeling. This can create stress or confusion, especially for users relying on assistive technology.
Frames
Embedded third-party components, such as chat widgets, should be regularly tested to ensure they do not trap focus or introduce inaccessible controls. This is essential to prevent screen reader and keyboard users from getting stuck in inaccessible frames.
Plain Language and Comprehensibility
English words on Swedish pages are not correctly marked with language attributes, leading to mispronunciation. This poses difficulties for screen reader users who require accurate language switching and people with cognitive or learning disabilities who rely on consistent pronunciation.
Documents and Other Media
PDF documents are partially tagged but still lack language declarations, titles, and some structural markup. Short videos autoplay without captions or transcripts. This is a barrier for screen reader users who need fully tagged PDFs, deaf or hard-of-hearing users who depend on captions or transcripts, and visually impaired users who prefer reading over watching videos.
How We Tested Accessibility
The evaluation was conducted by independent experts from Funka. The website was assessed using manual testing and assistive technologies against WCAG 2.2, levels A and AA. The test was conducted in the latest versions of major browsers.
