Pairing the Volvo Cars app with the car

Before pairing the Volvo Cars app with the car, your Volvo ID needs to be connected to the owner profile. This happens automatically when you buy or lease directly from Volvo Cars. If you buy the car from a retailer, they can help you set this up. If you're not connected to the car through a Volvo Cars ordering process or via a retailer, you need to connect your Volvo ID to the owner profile yourself.

Follow the steps below if you've bought or leased your car directly from Volvo Cars or a retailer:
Sit in the driver's seat with your phone and car key.
Log in to the Volvo Cars app with your Volvo ID.
Press Connect your Volvo or Learn more to get an overview of the process.
Follow the steps below if you're not connected to the car through a Volvo Cars ordering process or via a retailer:
Sit in the driver's seat with your phone and car key.
In the car's centre display, follow the instructions on the welcome screen.
Log in to the Volvo Cars app with your Volvo ID to see the connected car.

Re-pairing a phone with your car

In case you have reinstalled the Volvo Cars app, or you have a new phone, you need to remove the previously paired phone in order to re-pair the new one.

Option 1

If your car is updated with software version 2.5 or later, you can unpair the phone in the centre display.

Users with administrator privileges can view and unpair all phones connected with the car. Other users can only view and unpair their own phone.
Go to iCup-2037-Settings symbol > Profiles > Volvo Cars app devices.
Select the phone to unpair and press Unpair this phone.

Option 2

If your car is NOT updated with software version 2.5 or later, you don't have the option to unpair the phone in the centre display. You need to create a new profile in the car and you also need access to a second phone to remove the connection.

If you have reinstalled the app but don't have access to multiple phones, you need to do a factory reset.

To create a new profile:
In the centre display, swipe down from the top to reach the notification centre.
Press the currently used profile icon in the top left of the display.
Select New profile and follow the instructions.
To pair the second phone and become administrator:
Log in to the newly created profile.
Go to iCup-2037-Settings symbol > Profiles > Become an admin > Volvo Cars app devices.
Select Pair phone and follow the instructions.
To remove the originally paired phone and link the new phone to the owner profile:
When pairing of the second phone with your car is complete, remove the originally paired phone from the Volvo Cars app.
Remove the originally paired phone from the user profile in the car.
Press the currently used profile icon in the top left of the centre display.
Select the owner profile (the first profile created).
Go to iCup-2037-Settings symbol > Profiles > Volvo Cars app devices.
Select Pair phone and follow the instructions.

Performing a factory reset

If you have a pre-owned car and the previous user has not removed their profiles and phones are still paired, a factory reset is recommended.

Enabling data sharing for the Volvo Cars app

Data sharing for the Volvo Cars app needs to be enabled in order for the app to access data from the car. This is needed for functions such as climate and lock/unlock doors.

In the centre display, go to iCup-2037-Settings symbol > Privacy > Volvo privacy settings > Volvo Cars app.
Make sure that data sharing is enabled.

Cars with the earlier infotainment system (Sensus)

In order to have access to all the functions in the Volvo Cars app you need:

  • a valid Volvo Cars app subscription (previously called Volvo On Call subscription)
  • to pair the app with the car.

 Note

If you don't have a valid subscription, you can still use certain basic services1, such as accessing the user manual and booking service for your car. In the Volvo Cars app, choose to add your car and enter the car's vehicle identification number (VIN).

Pairing the Volvo Cars app

 Note

Make sure that Car Modem Internet is not selected as the internet source in the centre display. If it is selected, you will not be able to connect the Volvo Cars app with your car.

Make sure that the car is in an area with mobile coverage and that your phone has an internet connection.

Have your four-digit PIN code, your Volvo ID and the vehicle identification number (VIN) available. Volvo ID can be created when logging in to the Volvo Cars app and you can find the VIN in the windscreen or centre display.

Sit in the driver's seat with your phone and switch on the ignition.
Log in to the Volvo Cars app with your Volvo ID and follow the instructions in the app. If you already have a paired car in your app and want to pair another one, select Px-2037-VOC app icon Profile > Connected cars > Add a car.
When you receive a message to press the ON CALL button, wait a few seconds before pressing the button to ensure that the car is in verification mode. Confirm the connection between the app and the car with one quick press (do not hold down the button).

 Note

If you share a car with other people, it is recommended that every user creates their own Volvo ID since they are personal.

A Volvo ID can be linked to up to ten cars, and each car can have up to ten Volvo IDs linked to them.

Switching between paired cars in the Volvo Cars app

If you have paired more than one car with the Volvo Cars app and you want to switch between them:
Go to Px-2037-VOC app icon Profile > Connected cars.
Select the car you want to switch to and press Switch to this car.
