How to get there?
Fully electric by 2030
Today, all our cars have an electrified version. We plan to become a fully electric car company by 2030 – by then we want all our new cars to be pure electric. We’re all in.
2017
First established car company to announce all-in electrification
2019
All models available in an electrified version
2023
Launches of EX90, EX30 and EM90 make 5 fully-electric models (also XC40 and C40)
2025
Ambition: 50% sales to be pure electric models
2030
Plan: every new Volvo model to be pure electric

But electrification is not enough
We need to reduce all our direct and indirect emissions. So we’re tackling CO₂ within our supply chain and operations – this includes embracing the circular economy.
We aim to reduce the lifecycle carbon footprint per car by 40 per cent (2018-2025). It's a step towards our ambition of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

We support the goals of the Paris Agreement
In 2019, The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)* approved our ambitious climate plan. According to SBTi, our emissions reduction targets are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
We're committed to reducing our impact on the planet and we know it'll take a global effort. So it's important to collaborate with other like-minded companies suppliers and organisations, to drive our own sustainability performance and change within our industry.
*SBTi is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
