The Volvo Eco Challenge has been successfully providing grants of up to £1000 to sailing clubs in the UK since 2008, with six clubs in 2009 being awarded up to £2000 for exemplary projects.

This year clubs from different sports are being invited to enter the Volvo Eco Challenge.

The prizes will be:

  • £5,000 for the best overall project
  • 9 Prizes of £1000
  • Additional funding will be available for highly commended projects

To help you with your application and project, advice and guidance is on hand from the scheme’s Ambassador, BBC Wildlife presenter Chris Packham, the Volvo Car UK Environmental team and The Green Blue.

Why is there a need for this project?

All sports clubs have a legal duty for waste, pollution and contamination that their members and visitor activities produce.  Research has proven that sports clubs around the UK are struggling to comply with current environmental legislation; and with wildlife under constant pressure from climate change, human development and disturbance, this is an important issue which needs addressing.
Environmental care has been one of Volvo Cars' commitments for about thirty years and the Volvo Eco Challenge delivers real environmental benefits as well as encouraging young people to become more environmentally aware.
