Subscription

To use the connected functions in the Volvo Cars app, the vehicle must have a subscription for connected services. The subscription includes emergency assistance and security services as well as app services.

Vehicles equipped with Google built in1 are delivered with a subscription for digital services, which provides access to connected functions in the Volvo Cars app as well as additional services. The subscription is valid for 4 years.

Subscription status

The status of your subscriptions is shown in the Volvo Cars app under Subscription in the SuSi-21w22-VOC app icon profile tab. Your subscription for connected services can also be extended here.

If you do not have access to the Volvo Cars app, contact your dealer who can help you find information about your subscription end date. You then have to give the vehicle identification number2.

Extending your subscription for connected services

For information on how to extend your connected services subscription, see Extending a subscription.

Message that connected services subscription is about to expire

If your Volvo is model year 2011 or later, you will be notified that your subscription is about to expire and must be renewed.

45 days before the subscription is set to expire, the message Volvo On Call subscription expires soon appears in the vehicle's display. Users of the Android or iOS version of the Volvo Cars app will also receive reminders in the app.

Deactivated subscription for connected services

When the subscription time has expired, a message will appear in the vehicle's display saying On Call turned off (vehicles of model year 2011 or later only). The message disappears when the subscription is reactivated.

You cannot use connected services when the subscription has expired. However, emergency services via the SOS button and the automatic collision alarm will continue to function for vehicles with internet connections. If you want to use connected services again, the subscription must be renewed. See "Extending your subscription" above.

 Note

Automatic collision notifications are only available for vehicles with internet connections and will therefore stop working for certain vehicles after the phase-out of 2G and 3G. This affects vehicles that do not have Google built-in. Certain 2017-2024 model year vehicles can get internet connectivity after a software update. 2016 and earlier model year vehicles will lose all connected services.

Roadside assistance costs

Roadside Assistance costs are included in the first X3 years when buying a new Volvo. After this time has passed, in most of the markets, Roadside Assistance is offered for free providing the car has been serviced regularly at an authorized Volvo workshop. An authorized Volvo workshop can inform you of the status of your Roadside Assistance agreement.

You can get help to get back on the road, even if your Roadside Assistance agreement has expired. If this is the case, you will be asked to pay the cost for the service that is sent out to you.

 Note

If you do not have a valid roadside assistance agreement, additional recovery costs may apply.
