World Title fight heats up in South America

The fight for the 2017 World Title of Touring Cars is heating up as Polestar Cyan Racing heads to Argentina. The Circuito Termas de Río Hondo plays host to the sixth FIA World Touring Car Championship race weekend of the season, the home race of Néstor Girolami.

”This is obviously my favourite race of the year with a fantastic atmosphere. My goal is definitely to reverse all the bad luck so far this season and get the results we deserve. My ambition is to qualify in the top three and win at least one of the races,” said Néstor Girolami.

Thed Björk is the best placed Polestar Cyan Racing driver in the standings after two strong races in Portugal three weeks ago, just four points from championship leader and main Honda rival, Tiago Monteiro.

“I am really excited to start the second half of the season. My position in the championship is very good and the results so far this year are as good as we could hope for. We tested at this track after the race last year so I feel confident for the weekend. I think we are in for a classic, intense touring car battle for the title,” said Thed Björk.

As the season enters its second half, scoring points consistently is more important than ever. But Nicky Catsburg, placed third just ten points from the lead, is not changing his tactics.

“My approach will be the same as before. We need to keep in the top five and score good points, then we will be in contention for the title. The whole picture looks a bit better for this race weekend compared to the last. The track suits our car well and our car is lighter – I feel strong ahead of the race,” said Nicky Catsburg.

With five race weekends and ten individual race heats left of the season, Polestar Cyan Racing heads the manufacturers’ championship with a 28-point margin over Honda.

“We are exactly on par with our expectations after the first five races. We are really looking forward to kick off the second half of the season in Argentina. Obviously, we will rely on Néstor with his experience from his home track. We hope to see him, Thed or Nicky on the top of the podium on Sunday,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.

About Polestar

Polestar is Volvo Car Group’s performance road car brand and was founded by Polestar Racing, today known as Cyan Racing. Polestar’s birth was a result of Cyan Racing’s race engineers desire to explore how technology behind the multiple title-winning success in racing could be applied to the performance of road going Volvo cars, on all roads and conditions in everyday life. The first road-going performance Concepts were launched in 2010 and the first performance cars, based on the Volvo S60 and V60, were ready in 2012. In 2015, Volvo Cars acquired Polestar Performance. Today, Polestar builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, a 367-hp performance road car with over 250 developments over-and-above the standard Volvo products. It also offers Polestar Engineered performance hardware upgrades and powertrain software optimisations for existing Volvo products.

About Cyan Racing

Founded in 1996 and today known as Cyan Racing, the privately owned and operated company has been Volvo Car Group’s official team in motorsport since its conception. Cyan Racing has claimed multiple titles with the Volvo 850, S40, C30 and S60. Today, the company enjoys success on track with the Polestar road car brand as Polestar Cyan Racing in pursuit of both the World Touring Car Championship and Swedish GT, racing the Volvo S60 Polestar road going performance car.
