11.2-inch free-standing centre display

See what you need, when you need it, all at once. With this larger, tablet-like touchscreen your most important info is displayed more prominently. At the same time, you can instantly access your most used apps and technologies. Navigate, play audio, make calls, set the temperature, select drive modes, park expertly and more. Less fuss. Less distractions. Safer driving.

12.3-inch driver display

Remain aware of all your essential driving info at a glance. With fresh, clean graphics, use either display mode for intuitive control and quick overview. Calm for minimalistic navigation without the entire map in view. Map for when you want turn-by-turn guidance in full detail. The driver display can also show you when it’s time to move ahead in stop-go traffic.

Keyless entry with power tailgate

Lock or unlock your car effortlessly. By having your remote key on you, the doors and power tailgate unlock automatically as you pull the door handle. And to lock the doors, just press a button in any of the car's door handles as you leave the car. You also have the option to open or close your boot by waving your foot under the rear bumper–helpful when your hands aren’t free.

Connect Plus
Use Google Maps, Google Assistant or Google Gemini and any app downloaded on Google Play Store with unlimited data for four years. This digital services subscription is included with the purchase of a new Volvo car. A fee applies after four years.

Easy software updates

Get software updates sent directly to your car via the cloud. These over-the-air (OTA) updates roll out periodically, improving your car over time with no workshop visits required. OTA updates also make it easy to upgrade and add software-based features and packages at any time.

Get more from your car with the free Volvo Cars app. Use it to remotely access your car, activate climate functions, update car software and more.

Easy access
Lock or unlock your car remotely, or get notified if you’ve left your car unlocked. Can’t remember where you parked? Locate your car on a map, honk the horn or flash its lights.

Climate settings
Warm or cool the cabin before you get in. Heat seats and the steering wheel, too. You can also run a purification cycle to refresh cabin air before your journey.

Two-zone climate system

Our powerful two-zone climate system automatically maintains the cabin temperature you choose and can be set independently for the driver and passenger side. Floor air outlets and separate adjustable air vents at the rear of the tunnel console ensure a comfortable climate in the rear seat even during long drives. All cabin climate settings are easily controlled using intuitive touch screen controls. An efficient cabin filter helps keep the incoming air free from dust, pollen and other particles – a real benefit if you or your passengers are prone to hay fever or have other allergies.

Air purifier and remote cabin air pre-cleaning

Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) is a health impairing air pollutant. By efficiently helping to reduce or eliminate the levels of PM 2.5 inside your Volvo, our air purifier significantly contributes to a clean cabin environment. Its advanced filter helps prevent up to 80% of these extremely small particles from entering the cabin, while also helping to reduce airborne viruses and common allergens such as grass, tree and weed pollen from incoming air. The levels of PM 2.5 particles in the cabin are constantly monitored by an optical sensor and shown in the centre display. You can also compare the PM 2.5 levels in the cabin with those outside the car. Using the Volvo Cars app, you can even pre-clean the cabin air and access information on interior air quality before entering the car.

Child seats and locks

This family-friendly crossover is equipped with ISOFIX anchorages for child seats.

Power child lock
The rear doors and rear power windows can also be locked from the driver’s seat to prevent them from being opened from the inside.

Child safety recommendations
Our approach to child safety includes rigorous testing based on real-life traffic situations. That's why we strongly recommend keeping kids in rear-facing child seats until they’re at least four years old.

Wireless phone charger

Pop your phone on the optional charging pad in front of the cup holders. It fits larger phones and delivers enough power for quick top-ups.

USB-C ports

Charge devices using the two USB-C ports at the front of the centre console. There are two more at the rear of the console.

Power outlets

Run an electric cooler, air mattress pump or camping stove using the optional 12-volt power outlet in the boot.

360° camera with 3D view and side park assist sensors

This convenient feature creates a 360° birds-eye high-resolution view of the car and its surroundings. This view also includes onscreen graphics that show the car's intended route to facilitate manoeuvring in confined areas. Split screen technology further improves overview by showing both a 360° bird's view and a 180° rear or front view together with a virtual surround view at the same time – you no longer have to switch between views while manoeuvring your car. And for an even better camera view, you can choose to see the car and its surroundings in intuitive 3D. Anytime, you can also select a 180° rear or front view. On-screen guiding lines are shown to make it safer and more convenient to reverse or park the car. This feature also includes side ultrasonic sensors that complement the rear and front park assist sensors for a full 360° parking support.

Door opening alert

This function can help prevent accidents where, for example, a passing cyclist rides into a door that swings open from a parked car. It can also alert car occupants of passing vehicles before opening the door. The car's rear radars can detect cars, cyclists, scooters, and pedestrians that approach from behind. If someone inside the parked car intends to open a door, the car can alert with visual and audible signals.

Avoid collisions

Our intelligent safety assistance technology can help the car detect and avoid other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. It can give you a warning signal, and if you don’t react in time, can brake automatically. Or it can gently steer you out of harm’s way without crossing over to the other lane. Our advanced sensing technology together with the latest software helps the car act with precision to lower the risk of close calls. Day or night on busy freeways, quiet roads, at intersections, parking lots and more.

Keep to your lane

If you start unintentionally veering across the centre line, a collision with an oncoming vehicle is always a risk. Your car can detect this and correct the steering, helping you back to a safer position on the road.

Lane change support

Thanks to the many capabilities of Pilot Assist, not only can the car help you stay in your lane – it can also help you switch lanes. Simply indicate and the car can support your steering during the maneuver. You’ll still be in control and kept informed on the driver display.

Ease stress in busy traffic

Our Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) provides active support when changing lanes. If there is a risk of collision with other vehicles in the adjacent lane, BLIS will activate an alert. If you don’t correct your position in time, it can subtly adjust steering–helping keep you, your car and your loved ones where you mean to be.

Reverse with confidence

If your view is limited when reversing, the car can detect vehicles and pedestrians crossing behind. You will then be alerted with visuals and audio. And if necessary, the car can automatically brake.

Adaptive cruise control

Adaptive cruise control helps make driving smoother and more relaxing on both long journeys and in stop-and-go traffic. It maintains your chosen speed and automatically adjusts to help keep a suitable distance from the vehicle ahead, making it easier to follow the flow of traffic. It can also support overtaking by accelerating back to your set speed when you indicate and move into the next lane. In traffic jams, it can slow the car all the way to a standstill and help you move off again as traffic starts flowing. Adaptive cruise control supports driving at all speeds and is easily operated using the steering wheel controls.

EX40 Charging solutions

For staying charged when life is on go-mode.

Top up on time

A 20 per cent charge level can trigger a charging reminder to help you top up on time. With the reminder, your car offers to list nearby public charging stations on your centre display. Select a station and enjoy turn-by-turn navigation plus an estimated time of arrival and expected charge level on arrival.

Charge more efficiently

Select a charging station as your destination, and your car will pre-condition the battery, pre-heating or pre-cooling it to the optimal temperature for charging. That can make a big difference to how rapidly and efficiently the battery charges when you arrive.

Rapid charging

Charge your EX40 from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes at public DC fast charging stations. A Volvo wallbox makes charging at home more convenient, too. You can start and stop charging, schedule charging, and monitor progress on the wallbox and by using the Volvo Cars app.

Plug & Charge

Plug & Charge is the easiest way to charge your Volvo at a public charging station. Just plug it in, charge, and go – no need for apps, cards, tags, or any other authentication methods. The charging station recognises your car and starts charging automatically. You can see the whole charging process on your car’s center display, and automatic billing saves you time and makes it even more convenient. The car is prepared for Plug & Charge. All you need to do is activate the function and connect your car with a charging account that supports Plug & Charge. On the road, you can easily find Plug & Charge stations using Google Maps in your car’s center display or the Volvo Cars app.
