The road to climate neutral
We want to be climate neutral by 2040. It’s the biggest challenge we’ve ever faced. And that’s ok – we’re part of the problem, right? So it’s our responsibility to change what we do and how we do it. Let’s all be part of the solution.
"Sustainability is now as important as safety to us."
We have dedicated our business to help protect the lives of people both inside and outside of our cars. We will now show the same dedication to help protect the planet.
Be a climate-neutral company by 2040
Be a circular business by 2040
Be a recognised leader in ethical and responsible business
How to get there?
Fully electric by 2030
Today, all our cars have an electrified version. By 2030 every new Volvo car will be pure electric – no combustion engines, not even hybrid engines. We’re all in.
First established car company to announce all-in electrification
All models available in an electrified version
C40 Recharge – the first Volvo designed as pure electric only
Half of all sales to be pure electric models
Every Volvo car will be pure electric
But electrification is not enough
We need to reduce all our direct and indirect emissions. So we’re revamping our manufacturing, supply chain and operations. Plus we’re continually increasing our recycling and the re-use of materials.
Raw materials and suppliers
Total operations incl. logistics
Total reduction per vehicle
We’re aiming beyond industry norms
Third-party approval for our climate plan
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)* has approved our ambitious plan to become a climate-neutral company by 2040. According to SBTi, our emissions reduction targets are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
We’re committed to reducing our impact on the planet and we know it’ll take a global effort. So it’s important to collaborate with other like-minded companies and organisations to drive our own sustainability performance and industry change.
