Volvo V90 crowned Scottish Car of the Year and Estate Car of the Year 2016

The Volvo V90 has been named 2016 Scottish Car of the Year at the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers' Awards in Edinburgh. Volvo's new premium estate also won the Estate Car of the Year award.

The V90 beat stiff competition to win the coveted Car of the Year title, and was praised for its practicality, high-quality interior and stylish good looks. The judges were also impressed by its innovative technology, which includes the ground-breaking Sensus touch screen infotainment system. This is designed to operate like a smartphone or tablet, and allows you to control most of the car's functions using simple swipe or pinch and zoom gestures – even when you're wearing gloves.

This focus on advanced technology extends to every part of the car. The D5 diesel engine, for example, benefits from PowerPulse, an ingenious Volvo-designed system that uses compressed air to boost responsiveness at low revs. There's also Pilot Assist, the semi-autonomous drive technology that is fitted as standard to all V90s. This pioneering driver aid takes care of the steering, acceleration and braking at up to 80 mph, helping to make long motorway journeys less stressful and tiring.

Every V90 also comes with a host of advanced safety equipment as standard, including two world-first aids: Large Animal Detection and Run-off Road Mitigation. Large Animal Detection helps to prevent collisions with animals such as deer by scanning the area in front of the car and automatically applying the brakes in an emergency if you fail to react in time. Run-off Road Mitigation is designed to stop the car inadvertently leaving the road by applying the steering if the car gets too close to the edge of the carriageway.

Volvo Cars has revealed performance-inspired R-Design models of the new S90 sedan and V90 estate

Central to the S90 and V90 R-Design is an advanced sport chassis that delivers an energetic, road-hugging drive.
“R-Design delivers an edge to our elegant estate and sedan models in our 90 Series, with a winning combination of a sportier, more responsive drive with clearly visible performance styling,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President Marketing Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars.

Sporting a new front-end design with spoiler-integrated fog lights, the R-Design models come with a unique grille and piano black trim on both front and rear. A new 5-spoke matt black diamond-cut wheel adds to the performance feel.

A wide range of styling cues are included on the inside – from unique deco trim, pedals and mats, to the sporty contour seats and special steering wheel, including a high level interior illumination package that radiates attention to detail.

Order books are now open for the S90 and V90 R-Design models.

Business-Friendly Volvo XC90 crowned best SUV at Fleet World Honours

Available now at Taggarts Volvo Motherwell, part of Volvo Car UK’s Business Centre Network, the Volvo XC90 has been crowned Best SUV at the Fleet World Honours 2016. The prestigious award ceremony was held at the famous Royal Automobile Club in London on Tuesday 19th April 2016.

The XC90 was praised by the judges for its elegant design, luxurious and practical interior, and advanced safety and connectivity equipment. Commenting on the XC90, the Fleet World judges said: "Spearheading Volvo's new-generation products, the XC90 is a distinctly Scandinavian take on luxury motoring. Elegantly designed and effortlessly comfortable, it offers competitive diesel and plug-in hybrid options for fleets and features the best interior in its class. With world-first safety systems, advanced connectivity on board and near-infinite practicality, it's a deserved winner."

The XC90 uses Volvo's all-new SPA platform and a range of powerful yet efficient Drive-E powertrains. These include the recently upgraded D5 diesel engine with its ground-breaking PowerPulse technology and the plug-in hybrid petrol-electric T8 Twin Engine, both of which offer companies an excellent blend of executive-class refinement and sensible running costs. PowerPulse is an innovative technology that uses compressed air to boost the engine's responsiveness by virtually eliminating turbo lag. This helps give the performance of a much larger engine, especially at low revs. Add CO2 emissions of just 149g/km and competitively low P11D prices, and the XC90 D5 PowerPulse is a compelling choice for local Motherwell-based fleet customers thanks to its tax-efficiency and low ownership costs. The T8 Twin Engine combines a petrol engine with an electric motor to offer the running costs of a far smaller, less powerful car. It is capable of doing up to 27 miles in electric-only mode, offering near-silent, zero-emission travel. Its class-leading CO2 emissions of 49g/km are seriously impressive, but factor in its 100% first year write-down allowance and corporation tax relief of up to £12,720 (based on a T8 Twin Engine Inscription) and the XC90 T8 is exceptionally tax-efficient for a seven-seat SUV.
