Inlet Manifold Issue

FAQ

Why has Volvo informed me of this when there is not a solution yet?

Your safety and continued satisfaction with your Volvo are very important to us.  Volvo Cars take this situation very seriously and we are working with the appropriate authorities to prepare an action for your car.  In the meantime, we feel that it is important to make you aware of this potential issue so that you are able to react accordingly should any of the symptoms in the letter occur.

Is my car safe to use?

Provided your car is not showing any of the symptoms outlined in the letter, there is no reason for your car to be taken off the road and it is safe to continue to use your car.

Are the “authorities” aware of this issue?

Yes.  Volvo Car UK is working closely with the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) in relation to this matter.

What should I do if the engine warning light illuminates?

Please contact your preferred Volvo Retailer without delay who will be able to determine whether the engine warning light refers to this issue.  Your local Retailer can be found on our Retailer locator. https://www.volvocars.com/uk/find-a-dealer

What do you mean by “unusual smell” and what should I do if I get an unusual smell from the engine?

An unusual smell is an odour which is not usually present whilst driving your car.  If you notice an unusual smell whilst driving, please stop safely and contact Volvo On-Call, Volvo Assistance (0800 777 116) or your recovery agent for your car to be recovered to a local Volvo Retailer.

Who will pay for any work if I take my car to the Volvo Retailer?

Your local Volvo Retailer will determine if the symptoms you are experiencing are related to this action.  If so, Volvo Car UK will cover the cost of the repair, including diagnostics.

What happens if the problem is nothing to do with this action?

Your local Volvo Retailer will determine if the symptoms you are experiencing are related to this action.  If not and your car is outside of warranty, they will discuss the costs with you directly.

I plan to go on holiday shortly, what should I do?

Provided your car is not showing any of the symptoms outlined in the letter, it is safe to continue to use your car. If you notice any of the symptoms whilst on holiday, please contact your nearest Volvo retailer.

If you notice an unusual smell, please contact your recovery agent or Volvo Assistance. Volvo Assistance cover applies across Europe.

My car is not showing any symptoms outlined in the letter, do I need to take any action?

No, provided your car is not showing any symptoms outlined in the letter, you do not need to do anything.

I think I had this problem previously and I paid to rectify this, how will Volvo reimburse me?

If your car was repaired by a Volvo retailer, please contact the repairing Volvo Retailer who will review the work previously carried out and they will determine if this was related to this action.  If it was related, they will contact Volvo Car UK directly on your behalf to discuss reimbursement.

If your car was repaired by a non-Volvo Retailer, please contact our dedicated team to discuss further. You can find their number at the end of this Q&A.

I’ve already had work carried out due to this concern so why are you contacting me?  Is the previous repair that has been carried out guaranteed?

If you have had work done in the past to rectify this fault, and your car is performing well, you do not need to take any action at this stage.  However, it may be the case that once a solution is available, we will need to invite you to book your car in for a further update.  In the meanwhile, please continue to use your car, unless any of the symptoms set out in the letter arise – in which case please book your car in with your Volvo Retailer.

I do not feel safe driving a car that could catch fire.  Will you provide me with a loan car until you can fully fix my car?

Provided that your car is not displaying any of the symptoms outlined in the letter, there is no reason for your car to be taken off the road.  If you experience any of the symptoms described, please follow the guidance provided in the letter.  If your Volvo Retailer deems that it is necessary to undertake any work related to this action, you will be given a loan car whilst the work is completed.

What has Volvo been doing to fix this concern?  When will my car be completely fixed?

There have been a number of corrective measures carried out which are improving this situation, but the complete solution is still under development at this time and is an urgent priority for Volvo Cars.  We will contact you with details of the complete solution as soon as it is available.

I am not the owner of this car, can you update your records?

The mailing data was not obtained from our database, it was sourced from the DVLA. You will therefore need to contact them directly to ensure their records are updated, we cannot do this for you.
