Troubleshooting sound system issues in your car

If you're experiencing sound system issues, try restarting the centre display and updating your car's software before contacting your Volvo retailer.

Sound system issues

Try the troubleshooting steps below if you experience any of the following issues:

  • Any loss of sound, for instance no sound from the radio, turn signals, navigation or parking sensors.
  • Reduced sound quality, for instance distortion or static.

Restarting the centre display

Many temporary software issues can be resolved by restarting your car's centre display.

Follow the steps for your car as described here: Restarting the centre display.

Your car's audio should be back to normal after the reset.

 Note

If you are having issues with your volume control, you can also try switching to a different media source.

Alternative reset method

If restarting the centre display doesn’t resolve the issue you can also try the following:

  1. Leave and lock your car.
  2. Wait approximately 30 minutes for the system to fully power down.
  3. Return to the car and check if the sound has been restored.

Software updates

Keeping your car's software up to date is essential for preventing and resolving any potential software issues. Regular updates address known problems and add the latest functionality and improvements.

Checking for updates

If you are unsure about your software version or need help with updates:

  • In your car's centre display:
    • Open Settings > System > Software updates.
  • Use the Volvo Cars app to check for available updates and schedule installation.
  • Contact your Volvo retailer - they can check if a software update is available for your car and install it for you.

 Tip

Downloading and installing the latest software updates over the air is recommended. A workshop assisted software update may incur a fee.

When to contact your retailer

If your car's software is up to date and the reset steps don’t resolve your sound issues contact your local Volvo retailer for additional support.

 Note

You should not need to perform system resets regularly. If you car software is up to date and you still find yourself needing to reset the system frequently, have your car inspected by a Volvo service technician to try to identify and resolve any underlying issues.
