The EX60, our new, all-electric mid-size SUV, was revealed to near-universal acclaim earlier this year and customer orders have so far exceeded expectations. As a family-friendly five-seater, the EX60 ends range anxiety, delivers a groundbreaking user experience and represents the next frontier in safety. It is also our first entry in the largest electric segment globally.
In recent weeks, we invited well over 400 media representatives from around the globe to get a first taste of the EX60 in and around Barcelona. There’s a reason we do a lot of our media test drives in Spain and similar locales. While getting good weather in Sweden can be like throwing a dice, the climate in and around Barcelona offers plenty of pleasant days.
On top of that, the region around Barcelona contains a broad variety of road surfaces and types, from small mountain roads to city driving to highway cruising. That variety creates a perfect setting for car reviewers to really test the car in different circumstances. Here are some of the best lines from the first batch of EX60 reviews:
Swedish outlet Dagens Industri concludes that the EX60 “is a really good electric car, remarkably quiet inside, with excellent cargo space, and a rear seat that leads its class. The core EV features are strong too: 800V architecture, fast charging, and a range of over 800 km. Volvo has done a great job here and now has a truly strong contender against German rivals."
In the UK, AutoExpress argues that “the Volvo EX60 has the weight of the world on its shoulders, but as an electric alternative to the huge-selling XC60, it excels.” AutoExpress notes that while the EX60 is comparable to German rivals, it “feels like a unique proposition in this hotly contested class. Safe and predictable, but carefully considered and dripping with style and cool details, there really is lots to like.”
Dedicated electric car website Inside EVs argues that the EX60 is “the best Volvo ever”: “Over five hours of back-country and city driving around Barcelona, the Volvo EX60 was exceptionally smooth, nearly silent, and utterly charming. (…) It’s an EV that finally feels like a true Volvo, through and through.”
Similar praise comes from US-based website Edmunds.com: “Volvo's latest EV is its best electric effort yet. (…) The EX60 is objectively and subjectively great.”
In terms of video reviews, a lengthy review by AutoTrader concludes that the EX60 “has got all the numbers you want in a new family EV. It's got loads of range, loads of power. It charges extremely quickly. But you know what? It's not just about the numbers. It's actually a really nice car to drive, a really clever car when it comes to the technology and also a pretty decent car to look at. This car is one of the company's best."
In Germany, a video review at Autogefühl judges that "the driving is actually the best positive surprise today”. Referring to the car’s German rivals, Autogefühl notes that “the EX60 can easily play along with them and it's also going ahead in this field."
