Over 190,000 customers can now receive updates over the air
Could you update your car’s features without leaving your home? Well, now it’s possible, all new Volvo car models* are able to receive software updates over the air.

Over the air updates, becoming available for all Volvo Cars models from model year 2023.
Supporting our ambition to make customers’ cars better every day, the over-the-air (OTA) capability, which initially was introduced on our fully electric cars, will be available across our complete model range. Already this week, we’re rolling out our eighth complete car OTA update, which will reach more than 190,000 Volvo cars around the globe. With this move, we’re strengthening our position as one of the industry leaders when it comes to updating car software over the air.
“By making all Volvo models able to receive over-the-air updates, we make important progress towards our ambition of making our customers’ cars better every day,” said Henrik Green, our chief product officer. “This is a significant milestone: we’re now updating cars of all models in a majority of our markets, bringing the benefits of remote continuous updates to an ever-increasing number of customers.”
But what does this mean for all Volvo owners out there? Quite a lot actually. First of all, it means that they now can receive an update of their car’s complete operating system over the air. And it’s not just any system; we’re talking about the latest version of Android Automotive OS, Android 11™.

With Google apps and services built-in right from the start, our customers will have best-in-class navigation with Google Maps, hands-free help with Google Assistant and a broad offer of native in-car apps via Google Play, as well as the Volvo Cars app. Jointly developed with Google, this infotainment system comes with a user-friendly interface, unparalleled connectivity and access to well-known apps and services.
And it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to software updates over the air, Volvo owners will also be able to enjoy a variety of feature and quality improvements, ranging from better energy management through improved climate timers and updates to mobile app functionality and in-car applications.
With this week’s release, we’re now offering OTA updates on a regular basis in the majority of Volvo markets, and today’s number of more than 190,000 cars will grow even further with every new update. We’re happy to see new markets around the globe, including India, Taiwan and New Zealand, getting their first software updates over the air. And earlier this year, markets such as South Korea, Australia, Thailand and Singapore took their first OTA steps.
Please note that the availability of features and services mentioned above may differ between markets.
