Connecting the Volvo Cars app to the car
Download the Volvo Cars app and connect it to your car to access remote features, manage your Volvo, and check its status.
When you connect the Volvo Cars app to the car, you set up a car profile and connect your Volvo ID to both the profile and the car.

The way you connect the app to your car can vary depending on car model and model year.
Updating software
Make sure that your car and the Volvo Cars app have the newest software version installed. You can check your car's software version via settings in the centre display.
Removing profiles from a pre-owned car
If you have a pre-owned car, make sure the previous owners' profile has been removed from the car. If they still have a profile, ask the previous owner to remove the car from their Volvo Cars app, or contact Volvo support.
Connecting the app to the car
This section is applicable to cars with Google built-in.
When you connect the Volvo Cars app to the car, you set up a car profile and connect your Volvo ID to both the profile and the car. The first person to connect the app to the car is given an owner profile with full permissions, however they don't need to be the legal owner of the car. Additional users are given co-driver profiles. The way you connect the app to the car depends on which type of profile you are setting up.
Owner profile
You can connect the Volvo Cars app to the car via the app or the car. If connecting via the app, sign in with your Volvo ID and follow the instructions in the app.
If a Volvo retailer has registered your Volvo ID as the owner, your name will be displayed when you begin connecting the app to the car. Sign in with the same Volvo ID to complete the connection.Note
Connecting the Volvo Cars app via the car
Sit in the driver's seat with your two key fobs and your phone.
The profile setup tutorial appears in the centre display.If a Volvo retailer registered your Volvo ID as the owner, you don't need to bring the keys into the car.Note
- Follow the instructions for profile setup in the car's centre display.The app opens and you are connected to the car.

Selecting the owner profile
If you have already created an owner profile, the profile setup may not appear. Make sure you have the owner profile selected and go to Profiles→Volvo Cars app.
Scanning the QR code
You can scan the QR code using your phone's camera, or via the Volvo Cars app
Invite other drivers to set up co-driver profiles and connect their app to the car by sending an invitation link from the Volvo Cars app. There are instructions on how to do this in a separate article.
Co-driver profile
You can connect the Volvo Cars app to the car via the app, the car's centre display or an invitation link sent by the person with an owner profile. If you connect through an invite, a car profile is automatically created for you. If connecting via the app, sign in with your Volvo ID and follow the instructions in the app. Follow the steps below to connect via the car.
- Sit in the car with your phone.
- Go to your car's settings and press Profiles.
If you already have a car profile, select your profile and go to Volvo Cars app.
If you don't already have a profile, add a new one by pressing the plus icon.
- Follow the instructions in the display.The app opens and you are connected to the car.You can scan the QR code using your phone's camera, or via the Volvo Cars app

If you have more than one car connected to your Volvo Cars app, you can switch between them via the home tab

Adding a car in the Volvo Cars app
This section is applicable to cars with Sensus infotainment system.
If a retailer or Volvo support has connected your Volvo ID to your car, you don't need to add your car in the app. You'll see your connected car in the app when you sign in.
Make sure your car is in an area with mobile coverage and your phone has an internet connection.
- Sign in to the Volvo Cars app with your Volvo ID.
- If you don't have any others cars connected to the app, press Add your car on the welcome screen.
- If you have other cars connected to the app, go to the profile tab
and press Your cars→Add car.
- Add your car's VIN[1] and follow the instructions in the app that are relevant for your profile.

Accessing all features in the app
To access all features in the app, you need to have an active subscription for connected services. You can see your subscription status, or set up a subscription, via the car tab
in the Volvo Cars app. Once you have an active subscription, you'll have app access to the car. You can also contact your retailer or Volvo support for help.
If you have an owner profile, you can give other drivers access to your car in the app. There are instructions on how to do this in a separate article.
