For Everyone's Safety

Throughout the process of designing and building a Volvo, we put people first, making your perspective ours.

Before a new Volvo leaves the factory, each car undergoes an extensive quality control program, to ensure that everything meets our high standards. But our job doesn’t end there. Through our quality systems and close co-operation with our worldwide retailer network, we follow up on Volvos of all model years to see how real-life driving affects the car and its components. Our safety commitment is one that lasts for life.

Safety recalls

Despite our thorough testing and follow up, issues may occur that can be traced back to the construction and building of the car, or the car components.

Sometimes they are things you won’t even notice, like a software update that we take care of at your next service appointment. But in rare situations, we need to make a recall, asking you to contact your local Volvo retailer to have an issue corrected. This is particularly the case when we encounter issues that may affect your safety, even if there are no reports of incidents.

EX30 Recall Information

Affected models: EX30 R10360

Investigations have identified a potential hardware issue within the High Voltage Battery, which in very rare cases could cause the battery to overheat when charged above 70%. In the worst case scenario this could lead to a possible fire within the high voltage battery.

You can check if your car is affected using our Recall Information Tool above.

If your car is affected, please do not charge your battery above 70%. To set the maximum charge level in your car, follow these steps:

• Press the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar of the Infotainment screen and go to settings
• Go to Charging → Select Custom option.
• Set your charge level to maximum 70%.

Volvo Cars is confident that by limiting the battery’s maximum state of charge to 70% this will eliminate the risk of overheating until the modules have been inspected and replaced as necessary. However, following discussions with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), they have recommended that the following precautions should also be followed:

• Do not leave your vehicle unattended whilst charging within buildings or covered areas.
• If you see any vehicle warnings in the car or app during or after charging seek assistance (via Volvo Assist by calling 0800 777 116, or Volvo Customer Relations by calling 01628 903 800.

We have now identified a fix which involves replacing some components within the battery. Parts are arriving in the UK and your retailer will be in touch as soon as possible to offer you a repair booking date.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your co-operation in limiting the charge level to 70% whilst you await further contact from your retailer. Please be assured that Volvo Cars remains committed to putting your continued satisfaction and safety above everything else.

If you have any questions about your vehicle, please contact the Volvo Customer Care team.
