Battery state of health certificate
When it comes to the performance of electric cars, the battery is one of the most important components. That’s why they come with a high-voltage battery state of health certificate.*

Battery factory warranty
The high-voltage battery warranty is valid for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers from the car’s first registration date and guarantees at least 70 % of the original capacity throughout the period.

The Volvo Cars app makes it easy to find charging stations, track status and control key functions remotely. It also provides access to public charging, manuals and service booking.

Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of a certified used electric car?
Certified used electric cars can be an excellent investment. In addition to the security that comes with buying the car from your Volvo dealer, you also get: – The balance of the 5-year warranty – A certificate of battery health – Full service history – Review by certified technicians – 14-day exchange agreement – Battery warranty for up to 8 years or 160,000 km* – The latest software installed
*Valid for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers from the car's first registration date and guarantees at least 70% of the original capacity throughout the period.
What is included in the battery factory warranty?
The high-voltage battery factory warranty covers the battery’s performance, ensuring it maintains at least 70% of its original capacity for up to 8 years or 160,000 kilometres, counted from the car’s first registration date, not the date you take delivery. This protection helps you feel confident in the long-term reliability of your certified used electric car.
What is a battery health certificate for electric cars?
Several certified used electric cars come with a high-voltage battery state of health certificate*, which gives you a battery state of health value. A battery with 100% state of health (SOH) means that 100% of the original capacity is still available for usage i.e. your vehicle has the same range as when it left the factory.
The provided value is based on data-driven estimates in the vehicle and the expected degradation trend. Estimations in the vehicle depend on the past usage pattern of the battery and other factors. The accuracy of the given value is expected to be within +/- 3% SOH for batteries with above 90% SOH and +/-5% SOH deviation for batteries with less than 90% SOH. The estimated battery state of health is not a prediction or guarantee of future battery health and the battery health will degrade over time. Battery health and the rate of degradation can be affected by many factors, including but not limited to outside temperatures and charging habits. Hence, you as an owner can positively influence the battery’s future state of health.
*Please confirm with your Volvo Cars retailer which models the Volvo High-Voltage Battery State of Health Certificate is available for.
How does the battery state of health affect the range?
Let’s say you want to know how a battery state of health of 95% translates into range. If the battery offered 500 km of range when it was new (at 100% state of health), the range is now 475 km (-5% of 500 km = 25 km).
Can I finance a used electric car?
Yes. Volvo offers tailored finance options for used electric and plug-in hybrid cars through the Volvo Selekt program. Flexible plans are available via your local retailer.
How do I know that my battery is performing as it should?
For some models, we offer predictive maintenance of your high voltage battery. This means that if your battery’s quality deteriorates, we can proactively reach out to you to carefully plan and prepare your workshop visit, where we will replace your battery. This can reduce the amount of unplanned maintenance. Though not all battery maintenance or replacements can be predicted. Reach out to your retailer for available models and to learn more.
What are the costs of replacing a battery?
If your battery should need replacement outside the battery factory warranty (8 years from first registration or 160 000 km, whatever comes first), Volvo Cars can replace your battery with a refurbished battery which significantly reduces the costs compared to adding a new battery. The refurbished battery can be a more sustainable solution, and it will have the same state of health or higher as the previous battery. Each refurbished battery comes with a warranty of 4 years from the date of replacement or 80 000 km, whichever occurs first. This warranty allows customers to rely on the performance and longevity of their refurbished batteries.
