Huge over-the-air update puts Apple Maps behind the wheel
The era of over-the-air updates is well and truly here. After notching up a million so far, the next one will hit 650,000 on its own.

Volvo Cars is sending out its biggest over-the-air update yet – to make the infotainment system even better for Apple CarPlay users.
The update will be more than 650,000 cars globally with Google built-in, and means that Apple Maps and other navigation apps will be available in the driver display, just behind the steering wheel.
The update will also enable drivers to switch between driver support functions using the steering wheel buttons, and choose whether (or not) the wing mirrors should fold when they lock the car.
It’s the biggest over-the-air update yet – Volvo Cars previous updates combined stood at around a million – and gives drivers more functionality on handling phone calls via the centre display, as well as better media functionality.
The update will also enable drivers to switch between driver support functions using the steering wheel buttons, and choose whether (or not) the wing mirrors should fold when they lock the car.
Other changes include some engine calibration optimisations and minor bug fixes.
Volvo Cars is increasingly investing in software, both making its own systems and partnering with best of breed suppliers. Over-the-air updates and upgrades make life easier for drivers to get the latest technology – without having to visit a service centre or wait in a call centre queue.
