Volvo drivers can stream Amazon Prime Video – and YouTube’s next

Waiting to pick up the kids, charging the car’s battery, or just taking some cherished time away from the in-laws, Volvo Car drivers can now stream Amazon Prime Video.

Volvo’s cars are becoming a home from home. Drivers will be able to stream Amazon Prime Video via an over the air update – and YouTube is coming next.


For safety, streaming is only enabled when cars are fully stationary.

But that means charging electric vehicles, waiting to pick the kids up from school, or cherishing a quite moment away from the in-laws becomes a little more enjoyable.


Cars sold from 18 September can already stream Prime Video as the app will now come as standard. Other cars and markets will get the functionality via a software update, with Volvo among the first carmakers in the world to add the service.


After that, YouTube will come to Volvo’s cars with Google built-in*.


“Adding access to services such as Prime Video and YouTube in our cars bolsters the continuously growing list of software and applications to make lives for our drivers better,” said Erik Severinson, Volvo Cars global head of new car programmes. “We are delivering on our promise of building cars that grow with our customers over time.”


Volvo Cars has not yet secured exclusivity with premium popcorn providers in all regions.
