With a digital key, your car can recognise your phone or smart watch and automatically unlock or lock the doors when you approach or leave the car. It also lets you lock and unlock the car via the wallet app on your device.
Note
Digital key is currently available for iPhone and Apple Watch models compatible with the latest iOS and watchOS versions.
Some devices might not be compatible with the digital key. If you're not sure if your device supports digital keys, check with your phone's manufacturer.
Using the digital key
With a digital key in your phone's wallet app, you can lock or unlock the car in several different ways.
- grasping the door handles
- using the approach and leave feature for automatic locking and unlocking
- using your device as a key card.
To get driving access, you just need to bring your device with you inside the car or place it on the key reader between the front seats.
If your device doesn't have UWB capability, your digital key works as a key card. To unlock the car, open your key in the wallet app and place the device on the right-hand side of the driver's door handle. To start the car, put the device on the key reader between the front seats.
Digital key not working?
- your device is charged
- there are no obstructions such as concrete pillars between the device and the car
- your car and device are updated to the latest software version
- any required access settings are selected
- Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
Note
Sometimes, signal interference may affect distance-capability functions.
If a digital key appears to not be working as intended, try restarting your device or turn Bluetooth off and on. If you still experience issues, contact Volvo support.
Tip
Your digital key may still work for a while even after the device that it's on has run out of battery. Whether you can use your digital key when your device has a flat battery depends on how the key is set up in the wallet app. Contact the device's manufacturer for more information.
In case of any issues with using your digital key, keep a key card close to hand.
