The Volvo EX30 adds another distinction to its growing list of accolades: Volvo Cars’ compact fully electric SUV has been honored with the prestigious Good Design® Award 2025.
One of the brand’s most popular models, the EX30 combines contemporary Scandinavian design with a strong emphasis on sustainability principles. It has the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric Volvo and incorporates recycled and natural materials — qualities that earned it the award in the Transportation category.
The Good Design Awards are among the oldest and most respected design recognitions in the world, highlighting excellence in design, innovation, and sustainability. Established in 1950 by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, the awards annually celebrate products that combine aesthetic quality, functionality, and social responsibility.
“We are honored to see our SUV compact electric recognized by the jury,” said Rekha Meena, Head of CMF Design at Volvo Cars. “The EX30 was designed to be our most sustainable car to date, without compromising the premium experience and safety our customers expect. Compact yet mighty, its smart Scandinavian design conveys confidence, maturity and versatility, while making it instantly recognizable as a Volvo”.
A contemporary classic
Revealed to the world in the summer of 2023, the EX30 quickly became a contemporary classic. Volvo Cars’ first SUV compact immediately positioned itself as a bestseller, expanding the brand’s appeal to new customer groups and strengthening its fully electric portfolio.
With a range of up to 475 km and engaging driving dynamics, Volvo Cars has sold close to 200,000 EX30 units to date. Recently, the company announced several updates to the model, including a new entry-level powertrain option.
In designing the EX30, Volvo Cars set out to create a vehicle that combines premium experience, an accessible price point, and strong sustainability performance. Guided by the principle of doing more with less, designers sought to maximize the multifunctional use of components, thereby reducing the number of materials required.
This approach helped lower the EX30’s carbon impact, increase interior space for greater comfort, and optimize costs. The result is an electric vehicle that maintains Volvo’s core values of design, safety, and sustainability, while remaining accessible to a broad range of customers.
Although more compact than any other Volvo, the EX30 retains the confidence, maturity, and Scandinavian simplicity of its larger siblings. To maximize interior space and versatility, its proportions place the wheels at the corners, with short and balanced overhangs that create a long wheelbase and a planted stance. It also delivers the qualities customers seek in an SUV: versatility, a high seating position, and a robust appearance.
The Good Design® Award 2025 is only the latest honor for the EX30. In recent years, the model has received dozens of major awards, including World Urban Car 2024, The Sun Car of the Year 2023, Red Dot Best of the Best Award 2024, Car Design Award 2024, and Top Gear Magazine Eco Warrior of the Year 2023.
