Your Guide to Sedan Cars
Choosing a new car is a challenge, even if you have narrowed your choice to the sedan body style. Here is some advice on buying one of the most traditional forms of car.
What is a sedan
This passenger car is known as a saloon in some markets, such as the United Kingdom, while ‘notchback’ is a more colloquial term.
Some modern versions blur the lines between sedan and coupe by combining four doors and a swooping roofline – to create a more dynamic design that not only has more visual appeal but also improved aerodynamics.
Engines are almost exclusively positioned at the front of the car, though the wheels they power – whether the front wheels, rear wheels or all four wheels – vary greatly between models.
Volvo Cars Australia currently offers two luxury sedans: the mid-sized Volvo S60 luxury sport sedan.
The Volvo S60 is a medium-size luxury sedan incorporating five comfortable seats within an elegant-looking design.
A persuasive line-up incorporates four trim levels and a choice of turbocharged diesel or petrol engines, including the availability of all-wheel drive with the six-cylinder 228kW T6 model.
And for the most dynamic interpretation of the S60, there is the powerful Volvo S60 Polestar that can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
The Volvo S90 redefines the large premium sedan. It presents an invitingly spacious cabin crafted from the finest-quality materials, famously ergonomic seats for utmost comfort, and a raft of advanced features.
Technology highlights include Pilot Assist, a semi-autonomous driving system that can provide steering assistance in conjunction with the Adaptive Cruise Control.
A range of sophisticated powertrains are headed by the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid – capable of providing both high performance (0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds) and official fuel consumption of just 2.0 liters per 100km.
