Experts laud Volvo's EX90, XC90

XC90 at coastal golden hour

Volvo’s EX90 is rated more highly than the Porsche Macan and BMW i5 by the judges at CarExpert’s inaugural Choice Awards. The EX90 was crowned Australia’s best luxury EV. It’s the luxury electric vehicle CarExpert’s experts would buy.

Likewise PHEV stablemate the XC90, which also trumped the same two rival brands, taking home the award for the best luxury PHEV SUV. Given Australia is the western world’s most competitive car market – with more than 70 brands competing for business – notching two category winners is testament to the real-world qualities of Volvo’s flagship vehicles.

CarExpert’s team tests over 1,000 vehicles a year – and the cars that made the shortlist for the Choice Awards are judged on what really matters to drivers and owners.

“The premise for these awards to our in-house CarExperts was simple: in our chosen categories, which car would you buy for yourself or recommend to your friends and family?,” per the publisher.

“We catalogued every available choice and sat around a table and argued for an extensive period before we all voted and agreed on our winners and finalists.

“The models that have won CarExpert Choice awards are the absolute best in their categories and would be our top pick in the CarExpert office when it comes to recommendation and personal preference.”

Which is a reassuring shortcut for those thinking about which new car to buy. CarExpert also provided a handy summary on the winners’ page:

“The Volvo EX90 has seven-seat practicality, advanced safety technology and a refined Scandinavian cabin like an XC90, but with a dual-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain offering performance and refinement in equal measure.

“The package is compelling for buyers wanting space, safety and zero [tail pipe] emissions luxury in one vehicle.”

Here’s the topline on the XC90:

“The Volvo XC90 is comfortable and easy to drive, with a well-appointed interior boasting seven-seat practicality, making it an exceptional luxury SUV for families.”
