We take your data seriously and want to be transparent and provide you with information about how we use it.
To be able to provide you with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way, we continuously develop new products and services. As these become available, they will also be subject to this notice, unless we clearly inform you otherwise.
This notice explains how we at Volvo Cars interactions with the data generated by the use of our products (such as our vehicles) and our related services (such as the Volvo Cars App) by individuals and companies, such as existing and potential customers, lessees and fleet owners. Below we will collectively refer to the different individuals we interact with as ‘you‘ or ‘user’.
In addition to the information set out in this notice, please note that we have published privacy notices explaining the specific processing of your personal data that we carry out in relation to our products and services. 1. Who we are
Volvo Car Corporation is a Swedish legal entity with company registration number 556074-3089 and registered address at Assar Gabrielssons Väg, SE-405 31, Gothenburg, Sweden. Volvo Car Corporation and its group companies are responsible for the processing of your personal data (‘we’, ‘Volvo’, ‘our’ or ‘us’). 2. What data we use
2.1 Our vehicles
Our vehicles can generate various types of data, including performance metrics, usage statistics, and diagnostic information, typically formatted in CAN frames, DBC files, Protobuf, or XML. The volume of data produced can range from a few megabytes to several gigabytes per day and is highly dependent on individual vehicle parameters (such as version, equipment, type of use, modifications, and digital service bookings). Data is generated in vehicles at different frequencies, and where required, also persisted in local disk. Based on consent, the purpose, and the sensitivity of the data, data is collected and stored in the cloud periodically, or on specific events.

Each vehicle has a unique alphanumeric 'Vehicle Identification Number' (VIN), which means most data generated from using a Volvo car is considered personal data. 2.2 Charging products and services
Volvo Cars provides multiple charging products and services integrated with the Volvo Cars App to make it easy for you to charge your electric vehicle.

3. Your rights and controls as a user
You have the right to access the data generated by your use of our connected products and our related services, as well as to allow you to share such data.
You can access your data by logging in with your Volvo ID, into our Data Portal here, in addition, any third party of your choice can access data specified by you, through our Developer Portal here. If you want to stop sharing your data with any such third party, you can revoke the sharing through the Data Portal.

As mentioned, these rights are not absolute, and there are limits to what data you can access. For example, there are limitations in regard to data containing trade secrets, aggregated data, and highly enriched data. Should any exceptions or limitations apply to a request you make to us, we will always explain why we cannot fully or partly fulfil your request.
You also have a right to submit a complaint to your local authority should you have concerns about how we fulfill our legal obligations. However, we would appreciate it if you reached out and raised your concerns directly with us first to allow us to try to resolve them together. 4. How long we keep your data
Volvo Cars will only retain data for as long as it is required for the purpose for which it is used, or where we are otherwise legally obligated to keep the data. Where we no longer have a legitimate business need for the data, we will either anonymise it so that it is no longer capable of being associated specifically to you as user, or your vehicle, or we will delete it.
