Volvo ES90 model year 2026 - Overview
The ES90 combines the refined elegance of a saloon, the adaptability of a fastback, and the spacious interior and higher ground clearance associated with SUVs. It’s a versatile car that does not compromise on comfort or space. A car that allows for bigger adventures, striking the perfect balance between your professional and private life, and allowing you to embrace those special moments.
The front features our Thor’s Hammer headlight design, expressing a familiar yet modern Volvo identity. Meanwhile, the large and wide tailgate hatch makes it easy to load and unload the family luggage or equipment for a skiing trip.
The ES90 has also been designed with superior sound comfort in mind. Noise levels inside are very low, making it one of our quietest cabins ever and taking an already smooth and serene riding experience to the next level. That in turn allows you to enjoy the sound system even more.
The top-of-the-line Bowers & Wilkins sound system utilises 25 separate high-fidelity speakers throughout the cabin, including headrest and ceiling speakers. The system also features the lifelike spatial audio of Dolby Atmos® that delivers an immersive sound experience. Exclusive to the Bowers & Wilkins system is a special mode replicating the sounds of London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Connectivity and infotainment
The Volvo ES90 is built on our SPA2 architecture and, like the EX90, is based on the Volvo Cars Superset tech stack. This consists of one single set of hardware and software modules that will underpin all our upcoming electric cars. It allows us to improve the overall performance and safety technology in the car throughout its lifecycle and roll them out quickly via over-the-air updates across all models based on the Superset.
It's 800V technology helps to unlock faster charging, a better overall performance and more efficiency. The result is a car that goes farther and charges faster than any electric Volvo before it.
The Volvo ES90 comes equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. It’s designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with your car’s central infotainment screen, more focused and personalised than its predecessor, which is further enhanced through Google Automotive Services.
The centrepiece of Google Automotive Services is the access to Google apps and services*, which offer hands-free help with Google Assistant, best-in-class navigation through Google Maps and a broad offer of native in-car apps via Google Play. This is elevated by Volvo Car Connect Plus, that provides unlimited mobile data (for in-car apps and vehicle communication) for 4 years.
Powertrain technology
The ES90 has the option of being powered by 3 different powertrains: Single Motor Extended Range, Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance.
The Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance variants supplying 456 and 680hp respectively, utilising one motor on the front axle and one on the rear axle. These are powered by a 106kWh and 11kWh batteries respectively, that can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes *. These models have a certified range of up to 435 miles (WLTP Combined) **.
The Single Motor Extended Range variant supplies 333hp, utilising one motor on the rear axle. This is powered by a 92kWh battery that can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes *. This model has a certified range of up to 400 miles (WLTP Combined) **.
More details around the powertrain offer can be found in the technical specifications.
Safety and driver assistance
The ES90 comes with a strong safety cage, state-of-the-art restraint systems, as well as optimised deformation zones. It is also designed to understand you and its surroundings to help keep you, your loved ones and others in traffic safe. Meanwhile, it can get smarter and safer over time, as it learns from new data and receives updates. State-of-the art sensors such as cameras and radars are connected to the car’s high-performance core computers, where NVIDIA runs Volvo Cars’ in-house software to create a real-time, 360-degree view of the world. The sensors also contribute to improve the reliability and overall performance of our assisted driving function Pilot Assist, with steering support while changing lanes.
Inside, our special sensors and cameras, powered by our own in-house-developed algorithms, gauge eye gaze concentration. The technology allows the Volvo ES90 to understand when you’re distracted, drowsy or otherwise inattentive. It’ll alert you, first softly nudging, then more insistent. And if the unthinkable happens and you fall asleep or are taken ill while driving, the ES90 is designed to safely stop and call for help.
