Volvo XC40 model year 2026 - Overview
The Volvo XC40 is the company’s compact premium SUV and the first ever Volvo model to win the prestigious European Car of the Year award.
Together with the larger XC60 and XC90, it completes Volvo’s global line-up of premium SUVs. The XC40 is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), an advanced vehicle platform that was co-developed within the Geely Group.
From a design perspective, the XC40 is more of a cousin than a sibling to the larger 90 and 60 Series cars, with its own personality, expression and character. The XC40 is defined by a strong graphical design, a real feeling of strength and quality and a more playful nature in terms of colours and materials.
The advanced air purifier system prevents up to 80 per cent of hazardous PM 2.5 particles from entering the cabin. No matter the conditions outside, the solution can help occupants enjoy better and healthier air quality, while having the possibility to monitor particle and pollen levels outside the car.
Connectivity and infotainment
The Volvo XC40 comes equipped with an infotainment system jointly developed with Google featuring built-in Google apps and services*. Intuitive and convenient, this next generation infotainment system offers customers unprecedented personalisation and an unparalleled, which is further enhanced through access to unlimited mobile data (for in-car apps and vehicle communication) for 4 years.
For model year 2026, the XC40 was one of the last Volvo models to come equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. It’s designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with your car’s central infotainment screen, more focused and personalised than its predecessor. A further upgrade to the car includes the next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, making our existing Google Android Auto-based infotainment system much faster and much more responsive. The infotainment system in these models will be more than twice as fast as the outgoing system, with graphics generation that is up to 10 times faster.
Powertrain technology
The XC40 is available in two 48-volt mild hybrid petrol variants: B3 and B4. The output of which, ranges from 163hp for the B3 to 197hp for the B4. Both powertrain variants offer smooth take-offs and up to 15 per cent fuel savings and emission reductions in real world driving
More details around the powertrain offer can be found in the technical specifications.
Safety and driver assistance
The XC40 brings a new standard of safety to the compact SUV premium segment, as the car is equipped with the award-winning safety technologies known from Volvo’s XC90 and XC60 cars.
The XC40 also has Volvo Cars’ latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform – a modern, scalable active safety system that consists of an array of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.
