Volvo Car electric vehicles will soon support the North American Charging Standard, enabling access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. This will complement the wide access of fast chargers currently available via the CCS (Combined Charging System) network available today. With this move, Volvo Cars continues to improve the electric vehicle experience for our consumers by unlocking access to an additional 12,000, and growing, public fast charging stations nationwide.
Later this year, our fully electric C40 Recharge will be renamed the EC40. With this new upcoming nameplate, this fully electric SUV will seamlessly fit with our other fully electric vehicles, the EX30 and the EX90.
Your real-world range is affected by your driving style and other circumstances, such as outdoor temperature, weather, wind, topography and roads. Other factors that impact range include how much electricity you use for car functions such as heating and cooling of the car. One way to improve range is to pre-condition your car during charging so it’s already at a comfortable temperature when you go.
The standard-fitted home charging cable is primarily designed as an auxiliary cable for household applications. For considerably faster and more convenient charging at home, we recommend installing a 240-volt Level 2 charger.
The cost for electricity varies depending on local conditions, but the cost can be lower compared to gas or diesel. The lowered fuel cost is also one of several reasons to switch to an electric car. And for even lower costs, you can pre-set your fully electric C40 Recharge to charge at the times when the costs are the lowest, often at night.
This fully electric crossover is perfectly suited for comfortable long-distance driving. And the battery’s high capacity helps you to do so without worrying about range. If you need to charge during the journey, you can do so at an AC charging station or DC fast-charging station. At a 150 kW DC fast charging station, it’s possible to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 28 minutes (or around 50-62 mile range in 10 minutes) – just enough time to rest or have a meal during the trip.**
** Charging times can vary and are dependent on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition.
You will find the fastest charging at a DC fast-charging station along the route. To charge as fast as possible, we recommend you to limit the car's charging level to 80 percent. This helps keep your charging times short because the last 20 percent of charging takes the longest time. So charging the battery from 10 to 80 percent at a 150kW DC fast-charger takes only around 28 minutes.* But if needed to reach your destination or the next charging station, you can choose to charge the battery up to 100 percent using the settings in the car’s center display.
* Charging times can vary and are dependent on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition.
In countries where Google Maps includes charging stations, you can find public charging stations direct from the map in the car’s center display or via a smartphone app. From here you can also select preferred charging stations and get guidance.
If the battery or a battery module needs to be replaced, this can be done just like any other technical part of the car.
The battery means there is approximately 1100 lbs of extra weight that needs to be addressed in an impact – for the car’s occupants as well as for other vehicles. The battery also needs separate protection to avoid harmful leakage after a collision. By utilizing a range of innovative safety solutions, Volvo Cars’ safety engineers have designed the C40 Recharge to meet all these challenges.
Yes.
The fully electric C40 Recharge has Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play built-in.
Yes, up to four years of access to the services are included. After that you can buy a continuation of the subscription if you wish to continue using all the services included.
A subscription lasts up to four years. If the car is new, this period starts on the retail delivery date. The subscription is linked to the car, so in the event of the car being sold, any remaining subscription time is passed on to the next owner/user.
Yes. All data is included for up to four years. This includes both for navigation and voice assistant, as well as downloading and running any type of apps (e.g. music streaming). After this period, the service can be extended as a subscription.
Smart battery design means all occupants have as much space as in an ordinary car. This also gives uncompromised versatility and smart storage solutions. The rear load compartment capacity is approximately 15 cubic feet including the compartment under the load floor. The battery encroaches on the space below the load floor, but this is to a large extent compensated by the front load compartment under the hood, which offers space for charging cables and other items you don't need so often but still want to have easily accessible if the load compartment is full.
We believe you should be able to drive fully electric without compromising on everyday versatility. That’s why the fully electric C40 Recharge twin can tow up to 2000 lbs.
The Volvo Cars Warranty for the battery is eight years/100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, provided that the car and battery are maintained and used in accordance with Volvo Cars’ recommendations.
The electric motors are sealed for life and maintenance-free. So compared to a combustion engine-propelled car, the fully electric C40 Recharge needs much less maintenance which may result in lower running costs.
Volvo Cars is committed to full traceability, helping to ensure that our customers can drive electrified Volvos knowing the raw material for the batteries has been sourced responsibly. The introduction of blockchain technology significantly boosts traceability within our cobalt supply chain. Blockchain, in conjunction with inspection on mine sites, GPS tracking, entry and exit scanning, verified logistics providers, facial recognition, ID checks, and time tracking, all contribute to a material’s traceability from a mine to the car factory.
Volvo Cars works closely with our suppliers to increase the sustainability of our products and services, including through securing responsible supply chains and making efficient use of resources. We are committed to the responsible sourcing of minerals and metals, and fully support the OECD Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-affected and High-risk Areas. In this respect, we require our battery suppliers to support our commitment to have full transparency of our cobalt supply chain and to work towards full traceability.
Sustainability performance is a key consideration when assessing and selecting our suppliers. We monitor the performance of existing suppliers and follow up with third party audits. We also put requirements on our battery suppliers to minimize carbon emissions during the production processes, including through the use of renewable energy. All our suppliers have to agree to the Volvo Cars' Code of Conduct for Business Partners, which includes the observation of human rights, including labour rights.
