Our Volvo Story
Our Volvo Story is a tribute to the enduring spirit of the people who have been the heartbeat of our brand in the US. Their unwavering loyalty, often spanning decades, reflects our shared vision of creating meaningful connections and making a positive impact.

Celebrating 70 years in the US, and the impactful stories that make Volvo, Volvo.
From the very outset, Volvo Cars has been a brand for people who care about the world we live in and the people around us. We have made it our mission to make life safer, easier, and better for everyone. For a better future. For life.

Jim Fisher Volvo Cars: Portland, Oregon
Their story begins in the 1930s when Joe Fisher, Sr. opened his first automobile dealership in the Midwest. He then relocated to Portland, Oregon and over the next few decades, a variety of imports were added to the Fisher family’s list of stores, opening Volvo in 1957. They now have third & fourth generations operating their Volvo store.

Volvo Cars San Francisco: San Francisco, California
In 1957, Walter “Andy” Anderson acquired a Volvo franchise for his body shop and used car sales center Royal Motor Sales in San Francisco, CA – becoming one of the first Volvo dealerships in the country. Three generations later, they are still serving local customers with business acumen and wisdom passed down over the course of nearly 70 years.

Boston Volvo Cars: Boston, Massachusetts
Back in 1957, a small dealership in Newton Corner, Massachusetts became the first dealership in New England to start selling a unique new imported vehicle - from Sweden of all places - called a ‘Volvo’. A few years Ray Ciccolo pooled the proceeds from the sale of his laundromat business, purchased the dealership, and Volvo history was made.

Since our first car was sold in North America in 1955, we’ve been driven by a collective commitment to people, safety, and innovation. As Volvo Cars approaches its centennial anniversary, our region is also celebrating a remarkable milestone: 70 years in the United States. In the spirit of both our heritage and our future, it is the perfect moment to reflect on our journey and the values that continue to guide us.
