Yes, all forms of hybrid cars need to be charged, but only plug-in hybrids can be charged at electric charging points at home or on the road.Batteries in mild hybrids only rely on internal charging through regenerative braking. Learn more about charging.
How long can a Volvo plug-in hybrid SUV drive? Are they good for long distances?
Volvo plug-in hybrids are designed to travel long distances without you having to worry about the
battery range. The dual power of the gas engine and electric motor ensures increased efficiency
and performance across long distances.
With a full gas tank and fully charged battery, the XC90 plug-in hybrid can drive up to 530 miles
and the XC60 plug-in hybrid can cover up to 560 miles (EPA estimates).*

Why are plug-in hybrids more expensive than mild hybrids?
Although the initial investment is greater, you’ll enjoy an extended range and better performance as part of the car’s value. Also, the ability to drive in Pure mode, or on pure electricity, will help you save money on fuel costs.
Is there a battery warranty?
For extra assurance, the warranty on the hybrid battery is extended to 8 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) under the Federal Emissions Warranty (10 years/150,000 miles for CA emission warranty states).
