As the year comes to an end and the holiday season approaches, here’s a look back at what 2025 was like at Volvo Cars.
Electrification

Volvo EX30 Cross Country with Swedish winter cabin
Explore EX302025 was a big year for Volvo Cars
We launched the EX30 Cross Country, which takes the successful recipe of the EX30 and adds rugged ingredients for life beyond the city. It’s fully electric and offers raised ground clearance, off-road focused wheels and tires, and all-wheel drive. It’s ready for rough terrain and slippery conditions. We also brought the EX30 Single Motor Extended Range to the US, which offers the most range of any EX30 variant.
And we announced big plans for our US manufacturing presence: we’ll bring XC60 assembly to South Carolina later next year, and after that we’ll add a new, next generation hybrid SUV designed for the US as well.
Updates to our iconic lineup
We didn’t just launch new models – we refreshed the lineup too.
It’s been an eventful year for the XC60: in February, we announced a major refresh for the upcoming model year, bringing updates to design, comfort and user experience, along with a faster, more responsive infotainment system.
The XC60 has been our global bestseller for years, and in June, it became our best-selling car of all time, surpassing the iconic 240 with more than 2.7 million units sold.
And for audiophiles, June saw the debut of Abbey Road Studios Mode, a sound technology designed to capture the essence of the iconic recording studio’s unique environment. It came free of charge via an over-the-air update to all Volvo EX90 cars fitted with the optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system.
Last, but not least: we now offer Black Edition across new models, our compact XC40 SUV and its fully electric counterpart, the EX40. This offers a dynamic new look to our compact SUV lineup. Versatile has never looked more sensational.
Trophies, awards and innovation
We kept adding to the trophy cabinet in 2025. The all-electric Volvo EX90 was named World Luxury Car, praised for its comfortable and refined interior, advanced safety tech and distinctive Scandinavian design.
Innovation in safety earned us a spot on TIME’s Best Inventions list, for the second year running (in 2024, our driver understanding system was included). This year’s honor goes to our upcoming multi-adaptive safety belt, debuting in the soon-to-be-revealed fully electric EX60.
The new multi-adaptive safety belt is designed to adapt to traffic variations and the person wearing it. Using real-time data from the car’s advanced sensors, the belt can customize protection by adjusting to the current situation and the unique personal profile of drivers and front seat passengers, such as their height, weight, body shape and seating position.
A big thank you to all our fans and friends for your incredible support this year, and warm holiday wishes from all of us at Volvo Cars.
