Supplying energy to your household and the electricity grid

You can use your vehicle's battery to supply energy to your household or the electricity grid, often referred to as Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid. This technology can help you lower your electricity costs and increase your self-sufficiency.

To be able to use these features, you need a Volvo-approved bidirectional charging box. Contact an authorized Volvo workshop for more information about the requirements.

Note

Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid are supported in selected markets from start, using Volvo-approved charging boxes in a home environment. As this area is new, functionality and coverage will gradually be expanded.

When you use bidirectional charging, there is minimal effect on the battery’s service life. The battery warranty is not affected. Volvo’s intelligent software works quietly in the background to ensure your vehicle stays ready for both the road and the grid within specified limits[1].
