With our over-the-air updates, there’s no need to visit a workshop, and no need to flip through a maze of menus – the car takes care of everything on its own.

More than efficient and easy, these updates are designed to make your Volvo car better over time. Whether it’s a brand-new feature, enhanced safety or small improvements that make everyday driving smoother, these updates help your car evolve.

Our EX90 drivers are the latest to benefit from over-the-air improvements, as we are rolling out one of our most significant updates yet.

It includes three standout features, headlined with a sound technology designed to capture the essence of the iconic Abbey Road Studios’ unique environment.

Volvo Cars is now launching the Abbey Road Studios Mode, a sound technology designed to capture the essence of the iconic recording studio’s unique environment.

Following the announcement of the mode last year, it is debuting in all Volvo EX90 cars fitted with the optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system, free of charge via the upcoming over-the-air update.

Developed by Bowers & Wilkins together with Abbey Road Studios, this technology is inspired by the studio’s characteristic acoustic spaces and the sonic signature of the equipment used by artists and engineers to create some of the most revered albums in music history, delivering a unique listening experience inside the EX90.

The Abbey Road Studios Mode comes with several presets that provide a selection of sounds, optimised for different listening styles. And for those ready to explore and create new ways of enjoying their favourite tracks, the Producer Mode allows you to engineer your own sound.

Curve Speed Assist

Curve speed assist

The next new feature is designed to make your drive safer and more comfortable, especially when navigating curves and turns.

The Curve Speed Assist is part of Pilot Assist, our advanced driver assistance system. Pilot Assist offers steering assistance and helps you maintain a set speed, adjusting to help keep a safe distance to vehicles ahead.

When Pilot Assist is active, Curve Speed Assist uses a combination of mapping data, GPS and in-car sensors to anticipate upcoming curves. If it detects that the set speed is too high, the car can automatically slow down through the curve and then bring you back up to your selected speed.

It’s designed to create a more relaxed and reassuring driving experience, which can be particularly helpful in unfamiliar areas or when visibility is low.

Before Curve Speed Assist, drivers had to manually change the speed in Pilot Assist to handle curves smoothly, or brake and then reactivate the function. If you’d prefer to be more hands-on when driving, it’s easy to turn off the Curve Speed Assist in the centre display settings.

Smart Charging

Smart charging.

Many of our EX90 drivers put thought into when and how they charge their car. Some might plug in as soon as they get home, let the battery fill up overnight and unplug whenever they head out again. Others might try to estimate how long charging will take and manually start it later, aiming to finish just before they need the car again.

With our new Smart Charging feature, EX90 drivers don’t have to guess anymore. Now, you can simply set the time you want your EX90 to be fully charged, so that it mirrors your schedule.

Not only is it convenient, but it also helps prolong the lifespan of the battery. By optimising your charging to match your planned departure time, this function helps reduce battery stress by avoiding unnecessary full-capacity charging.

That means less battery wear and slower degradation over time – basically a healthier battery for the long run. Plus, thanks to a pre-set minimum state of charge, you can be sure that your car always has enough energy in reserve in case you need to leave earlier than expected.

This over-the-air update isn’t just about introducing new features. We've also made some key bug fixes, including improvements to the digital key, AC charging, occupant presence and other refinements for a smoother experience with the car.

Want to dive deeper? Check out the full list of updates on our support page by navigating to your local site and Volvo model. All features will also be available to ES90 customers.

It’s important to note that over-the-air updates don’t just apply to our latest cars. Later in 2025, we will deliver our latest user experience to millions of Volvo car drivers around the world with a simple over-the-air software update. This update will be sent to approximately 2.5 million vehicles that feature an Android operating system, including models built as early as 2020.
