Celebrating 70 years in the U.S.
And our decades long commitment to safety.

Born in Sweden. Invested in America.
In 2025, Volvo Cars celebrates 70 years in the US, with the first Volvo car – the PV 444 – that was unloaded at a port in Long Beach, CA in 1955. Since then, Volvo has had an outsized impact in America, with a strong legacy of safety and commitment to invest in the future. On a human level, nearly everyone has a Volvo story. This year is not only a milestone for Volvo Cars – it’s an inflection point for the industry.

Driving Safety Forward
We have a long history of making cars and roads safer, with innovations like our 3-point safety belt that has protected countless lives, and can be found in almost every car today.

Helping Protect People and The Planet
The introduction of our three-way catalytic converter with Lambda sensor was a breakthrough reducing harmful emissions by up to 90%. It was one of the most important inventions for controlling tailpipe emissions and remains an integral part of all modern gas-powered cars.

From Sweden to South Carolina
Our first U.S. plant in Berkeley County, South Carolina, is a 2.3 million sq. ft. facility, that provides jobs for over 2,000 local employees. And is home to the EX90 - designed to be our safest Volvo Car yet - assembled right here in the U.S.
