K-PAX to Run Two Volvo C30s in World Challenge Touring Car Class

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Along with defending its World Challenge GT championship in 2011, K-PAX Racing announced it will pursue another World Challenge class championship by running two Volvo C30s in the Touring Car class.

Drivers for the Volvo C30 race cars have yet to be determined, but Jim Haughey, team owner of K-PAX Racing, believes these cars will be draw a lot of attention in the racing community.  "Some may think it odd, but racing the Volvo C30s in the Touring Car class is a perfect fit," Haughey said.  "The C30 is a front-wheel drive, two-door hatchback with a 5-cylinder turbocharged engine.  It's relatively aerodynamic and makes for a great platform to race in the Touring Car class."

"K-PAX Racing's Volvo S60 surprised a lot of people by winning the GT championship last year, and I think winning a Touring Car title in 2011 with a C30 is a legitimate goal," said Geno Effler, Volvo's vice president of public affairs.  "Actually, the objective for 2011 is to win titles in both classes."

The 2011 World Challenge season begins with two races in St. Petersburg, Fla., the weekend of March 25-27. The World Challenge is North America's top production car-based racing championship. Divided into three categories (World Challenge GT, World Challenge GTS, and World Challenge Touring Car), each race features a thrilling standing start, adrenaline filled door-to-door action and world-class drivers. World Challenge features cars from the world's most popular manufacturers - race-prepped versions of the cars driven on the streets.
