Volvo Car Corporation started assembly of the X40 series in Samcor Pty Ltd in April 2000. Due to a change of the ownership structure of Samcor, the company was renamed to Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FSA) as of August 21st, 2000. Ford Motor Company (US) is now the majority owner of FSA.

FSA is the South African home of Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Volvo and Jaguar. Land Rover will most likely join the family as well. FSA is one of Southern Africa's leading automotive companies for Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Light Trucks with a total of app 70 model variants.

In South Africa Volvo Car Manufacturing, Sweden is represented through its Industrial Office VCMSA (Volvo Car Manufacturing South Africa). This office is headed by Kaj Nielsen - Director Production Overseas.

The prime task of this office is to act as a Support and Liaison resource to the FSA Operation..VCMSA employs 2 people only, however, on temporary basis additional various VCC support are allocated to the plant during Year model changes, start-ups etc.

The responsibility of the VCMSA office also includes QAC (Quality Action Center) activities on behalf of the VCC Quality Organisation.. These activities cover the FSA plant, but also the distribution flow of cars to Retailer organization in Southern Africa region.

Volvo Car Corporation is also represented of its commercial office VCSA (Volvo Car South Africa) headed by Robert Norrman, Managing Director. This office is also located to the FSA facilities in Pretoria, S.A.

The total workforce (Aug -00) is, 3.280 where of 485 at Engine plant.
