Volvo Cars supports recall of Garmin navigators

Volvo Cars announces a product recall to support Garmin's safety recall on certain Garmin nüvi 760 portable navigation products supplied by Volvo in the U.S. and Canada. The Garmin product, which has been installed in several Volvo models, may have a defect that causes some battery types to overheat.

Customers may have purchased a Volvo equipped with a Garmin nüvi 760 unit that is potentially affected by this recall, or purchased a Garmin nüvi 760 unit directly from a Volvo retailer.

Garmin has indentified potential overheating issues when certain batteries manufactured within a limited date code range are used in certain Garmin nüvi 760 models with a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. It appears that the interaction of these factors can, in rare circumstances, increase the possibility of overheating. This in turn may pose a fire hazard.

Customers who suspect that they have a defective Garmin product are requested to enter the unit's serial number in Garmin's recall website www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall to check if their particular navigator is affected by the recall and act according to the instructions.
