VOLVO FOR LIFE AWARDS
FACT SHEET
WHAT
The Volvo for Life Awards program was developed by Volvo Cars of North America to honor and celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities in the areas of safety, quality of life and the environment.
This multi-year program calls for people nationwide to nominate a hero they know at www.volvoforlifeawards.com.
Nominations will be accepted from Dec. 4, 2002 through Feb. 28, 2003. Winners will be honored on April 16, 2003, at the first-ever Volvo for Life Awards ceremony, to be held in New York at Times Square Studios.
Volvo will make more than $500,000 in financial contributions to winners and charitable organizations.
NOMINEES
Throughout the nomination process, Volvo will profile select nominees on the www.volvoforlifeawards.com Web site and in the media.
FINALISTS
In March 2003, Volvo will select 50 semi-finalists, who will each receive a Certificate of Merit honoring their accomplishments. Ten finalists will be selected and will receive $10,000 each.
JUDGES
A panel of celebrity judges who embody the heroic spirit of the awards, including Dr. Jane Goodall, Sen. Bill Bradley, Dr. Sally Ride, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Maya Lin, will judge the finalists' nominations and select the three top winners.
WINNERS
Volvo will donate $50,000 to the charities of each winner's choice. Volvo also will fly the winners to New York City for the April 16 Volvo for Life Awards ceremony. A film documenting each hero's efforts will be presented. A top winner will be named and will receive a Volvo for the rest of his or her life.
EVENT
The first-ever Volvo for Life Awards ceremony will be held at Times Square Studios in New York City on April 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. EST. The event will feature a celebrity host and musical entertainment.
