CARB’s Advanced Clean Cars 2 rule adds new ZEV requirements, including a Propulsion Related Indicator Light (PRIL) for U.S. built EX30 and EX90 models.

Beginning with the 2026 Model Year, the California Air Resources Board Advanced Clean Cars 2 regulation introduces several new requirements for Zero Emission Vehicles (BEVs / ZEVs) like those that have long applied to combustion engines.

Among these is the Propulsion Related Indicator Light (PRIL) which is introduced in EX30 and EX90 for vehicles manufactured for the United States market*.

Similar to the traditional Malfunction Indicator Light, the primary function of the PRIL is to indicate that there is a fault in the vehicle propulsion system.  Have the vehicle checked by a workshop.  Volvo recommends contacting an authorized Volvo workshop.

*Please note, EX30s manufactured for the Canadian market do not have the “PRIL” as the vehicle has different software than its U.S. variants.  The EX90 however, does have the PRIL.
