Troubleshooting charging issues in the Volvo Cars app
Common issues when using the Volvo Cars app for charging your electric or plug‑in hybrid car, along with solutions to resolve these problems.
Connectivity-related issues
Connectivity issues can effect remote functions connected to charging and cause problems when trying to set:
- target battery level
- scheduled charging
- minimum battery level
- amp limit
If connectivity is poor or the car is in sleep mode due to a period of inactivity there are a number of things you can try to reset the connection.
- If the car is parked where connectivity is poor, remote functions may not update reliably. If possible, move the car to an area with better internet access.
- If the car has been idle for an extended period, unlock and start it to wake it up.
Issues with charging status and scheduled charging
When connecting the charging cable, the car will briefly begin charging to verify the connection. If the battery level is below your set minimum charge level, it will charge to reach the minimum level before following any set schedule.Note
If you encounter any of the following:
- Charging status is incorrect. For instance, if the app is showing that the car is charging when it’s not.
- Battery level showing incorrectly.
- Scheduled charging does not start at all.
- Your car begins charging when plugged in and continues to charge instead of following the set schedule.
Try restarting the app to re-establish a connection. If that doesn’t work see the article relating to connectivity issues for more information and further troubleshooting steps.
- Charging status is showing as ‘Interrupted’.
If the charging session was interrupted, unplug the charging cable and plug it back in to try again. If the problem continues, contact your Volvo retailer.
Reactivation after a software update
If the car recently had a software update:
- Start and drive the car to reactivate the connection to your phone.
- Wait 24–36 hours for synchronisation between the car and the cloud to finish.
- Scheduled charging should work again.
