Charging your Volvo at home
When charging your Volvo at home, you can use standard household sockets or dedicated wallboxes.
For specific charging information related to your car, see the relevant section in your car’s user manual.Note
Standard 3-pin charging
Charging your car with a 3-pin plug charging cable provides up to 2.3 kW charging speed, adding around 4 to 8 miles of range per hour. This charging method is best suited for overnight charging or top-ups.
Never use an extension cable with a 3-pin plug charger due to the risk of overheating.Important
From model year 2025, the 3-pin 'Mode 2' cable is no longer included as standard equipment for fully electric cars¹ but can be purchased as an accessory from your Volvo retailer.Note
Wallbox charging
The most effective home charging method is a 3-phase 11 kW wallbox.
Charging capabilities by car type:
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV): Can accept up to 11 kW.
- Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) from model year 2024: Can accept up to 6.4 kW.
All new Volvo electric and hybrid models¹ come with a 'Mode 3' fast-charging cable for use with wallboxes and public charging stations.Note
Charging times and speeds
Charging times and speeds can vary depending on country, electricity grid and model year.Note
For fully electric cars with a 3-phase 11 kW wallbox it takes approximately 8 hours to charge from empty to fully charged, and provides approximately 50-60 km (31-37 miles) range per hour.
Recommended charging settings
For optimal home charging speed, ensure your amperage settings are properly configured in both your car and the Volvo Cars App. You can find more information in your car's user manual.
